[EIWL] Get right outputs of these examples from the EIWL Book?

Posted 7 years ago

I've been reading AN ELEMENTARY INTRODUCTION TO THE WOLFRAM LANGUAGE.

Either I'm doing something wrong or something has changed.

Neither of these examples (page 213) seems to work:

WordCloud[TextCases[WikipediaData["EU"],"Country"]]

&

TextStructure["You can do so much with the Wolfram Language."]
  1. Is there maybe something I'm missing? I'm a complete novice, so perhaps I'm overlooking a basic step.

  2. Is there a place to get updates to the book?

  3. Could someone please tell me the correct way to do these?

Thanks for your help!

Brad, using Windows 10 I can verify your first example in the Programming Lab:

But on the Mathematica Desktop it works as expected:

Have a look at these screenshots:

and this one -- it doesn't provide an error, but it doesn't do what it should, either:

You can insert images directly into the posts --- please do it in future. Please read how to post properly: http://wolfr.am/READ-1ST

I don't have experience with the Wolfram Cloud, but I can't imagine your statements not running properly. May be time to send an email out to technical support.

I'm using the Wolfram Cloud (Development Platform)... should I be using something different (on a Mac)?

Both of these commands work fine in v11.1 on Windows 10 (64-bit). Both statements make calls to the Wolfram servers to gather data, so may seem a bit sluggish depending on your connection.

What version of Mathematica are you using and what operating system are you running on? Did you notice whether your computer was contacting the Wolfram servers?
