New Member - Need Help Using Site

Posted 10 years ago

i just joined tonight. I am taking College Algebra. I need some answers. Can I not just plug the question into the search bar and it spit out the answer? Surely, I can.

An example question is 2 times the absolute value of 2x-7 plus 6 is greater than 16. Now how do I do that when I can't even find the absolute value or greater or lesser than symbols are the keyboard they offer?

I am certain I am doing this all wrong. Please help!

(fyi, the 3 December post was duplicated in http://community.wolfram.com/groups/-/m/t/401590 .)

Your question sounded like you are confusing http://community.wolfram.com and http://www.wolframalpha.com/

The former is for asking questions about Wolfram products and services. The latter is for doing math.

In[36]:= Reduce[2 Abs[2 x - 7] + 6 > 16, x, Reals]
Out[36]= x < 1 || x > 6

Please learn the syntax - it's worth it. You get an answer here because you used English syntax. You get (mostly) an answer from Mathematica if you use it's syntax correctly. Trust yourself, do it by hand first, than check the result with Mathematica.

Not sure from your question exactly what you are asking. My guess is that if you use something like

(2 | 2 x -7 |) + 6 > 16

you will get a useful answer. If this is not exactly what you want, you should be able to see how to edit it. What keyboard are you using? All keyboards I know of have < | or > on them.
