Take a look and consider applying to this year's summer school for doing projects using Wolfram Language
https://www.wolframscience.com/summerschool/
Most students are in their early 20s but the range has been 14-76. The Wolfram Science Summer School is about doing projects related to Stephen Wolfram's "A New Kind of Science" http://www.wolframscience.com/nksonline/toc.html and these projects can be from math, physics, computer science, economics, and other sciences, but also have been from art, music, image processing, architecture, data science, etc..
This year there will be a new program for doing technology projects (not just software development, image processing, and data, but also anything related to actual products). More details coming soon.
