Mathematica versus MathKernel

Posted 9 years ago

Hi, I just installed Mathematica on my Windows 8 system yesterday, and used it several times, it opened fine and ran with no problem. Today when I try to open it from the desktop shortcut, nothing happens. So I go to the folder and the file Mathematica.exe, which was there yesterday, is no longer there. Only MathKernel.exe and WolframKernel.exe. I am able to perform computations but not open, create, or save any notebooks. I've searched this site pretty thoroughly and can't find a fix for this specific problem. Found something similar but none of the fixes did anything for me. Can anyone help?

It seems like a system or hard drive malfunction, that has nothing to do with Mathematica actually. Try to re-install Mathematica. Also check if your hard drive is damaged.
