[Job] Database Administrator [Wolfram]

Wolfram Research, creator of Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha, has an exciting opportunity available for a Database Administrator. The database team serves as the backbone supporting all the database systems needed to bring modern applications to market in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning and will thrive on finding newer solutions for existing database products. This position will require the candidate to tackle all aspects of database administration across MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server. Come join us and be part of this great journey. As a Database Administrator, you will interact with application development and operations teams within the company to ensure high availability, stability, and reliability of the data stores.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve all database access and performance issues, and ensure business continuity
  • Collaborate with application/database developers and operations/support staff to develop database architectures and policies and procedures
  • Monitor, optimize, and allocate physical data storage and database system details, including stored procedures and execution times
  • Respond to database-related alerts and escalations, and come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems
  • Provide technical input on the setup and configuration of all database servers

Requirements:

  • Two yearsÂ’ experience with database administration and development of enterprise-level environments Solid understanding of database architecture
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following (multiple preferred): MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or NoSQL databases
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space, and other resource contention issues
  • Understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Knowledge of backups, restores, DB commands, and replication
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, and patching
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like shell scripting, Perl, etc.
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • BachelorÂ’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field
