Are there APIs for calling Wolfram Language functions from Scala?

Hello,

I am curious if scala (and Spark) can call Mathematica functions using available APIs. Are there any examples available ? I also need to know if there is something like Hadoop LInk for Spark also.

If Scala and Spark can use a Java API or connect to a Java API via a stub, J/Link would be useful.
