Increase precision of numbers when importing data from an Excel sheet?

Posted 8 years ago

Dear all,

if I import an Excel sheet full with small numbers, I always get rounded values in Mathematica. How can I increase the precision of my numbers to make an exact import? Thank you,

The problem you're encountering is not with Mathematica, but with Excel. When you import directly from Excel, Mathematica is able to bring in whatever is actually visible in the cells, and that is dependent on the actual cell format. If you change the format of the cells, then you'll see different results. Importing, by first exporting to a CSV works because then Excel will ignore the cell format and output everything it has.

Does anyone know a solution for my problem? It can't be that difficult... :-(

That is weird...it does truncate indeed. Converting it to CSV does work however. Perhaps you could add an example of your xls file.
