Rendering SystemModeler content in a browser without any special plugin?

Posted 8 years ago

Hello there,

Some completely rookie questions here that I can't track down online. I'm researching the System Modeler to see if it's a good fit for our production environment. One thing I can't track down (wasn't clear to me on the tech specs page http://support.wolfram.com/kb/22280) is whether or not the content generated in through System Modeler can be rendered in a browser over the internet without any special plugin downloads. Is this even an option? I'm thinking it's not. It's unclear on the tech specs page if the downloads listed for each platform is for developing / authoring or for the consumer.

Also, can the output be made responsive to work on a phone?

And finally, are there any capabilities for making the content A11Y compliant?

Any input appreciated, Thanks, Dan P.

The Wolfram Language/Mathematica interactivity is available through the various Wolfram Cloud products:

http://www.wolfram.com/cloud/

The product most in the direction you describe is probably Programming Lab:

https://lab.open.wolframcloud.com/app/

Here you can try it out yourself (no sign-in required):

https://lab.open.wolframcloud.com/objects/wpl/GetStarted.nb

We hope to have SystemModeler features available in these products in a future release.

Thank you for the followup. We're looking at the platform to see if it's a viable candidate for developing interactive simulations for students that can be run through a browser. Sounds like this may be a dead end for now, but just to be sure, might you know where I can find some functional online examples that run through a browser? I've scoured the site and can't track down what I'm looking for.

Thanks again, Dan P.

You can work with SystemModeler and Mathematica, generating content in a Mathematica session or notebook. That content can then be deployed to Wolfram Cloud, making it available through browsers without any plugins. It will also be available through the Wolfram Cloud app on mobile/phone platforms.

The restriction you might run into is that Wolfram Cloud does not yet have support for SystemModeler itself. What that means is that the published/deployed content cannot generate new simulation data in the Wolfram Cloud. To generate new data and do modeling work, you would need a desktop SystemModeler.
