Put the current date in a header in V11?

Posted 8 years ago

I'm trying to do something which should be simple: Cause the current date to be printed in the header. Under File>Print Settings>Headers and Footers there is a nice form, and to the right an arrow that opens selections, just to make it easy. For example, selecting "File Name" inserts an object that looks like <<FileName>> which works. Same for <<PageNumber>>.

When I select Date I get:

FrontEnd`CurrentValue[FrontEnd`$FrontEnd, {PrivateFrontEndOptions,
  "DialogSettings", "HeadersFooters", "DateFormat"}]

which shows up just like that in the Header. Useless.

I did once do that and get <<Date>> which did put the date in the header, but I've never had it do that again.

This should be completely easy -- any suggestions?

Thanks Aeyoss,
I had not noticed that. I found in my notebook that date worked correctly in headers, but not in footers. I sent it in to tech support. I'm on 11.0.1 on Win 7.

Best, David

I just clicked on this in a few places and it looks like it emits <<Date>> when RIght Page is selected and it emits "FrontEndblahblah" if Left Page is selected. I was doing this with the Footer (rather than header). Also when it put <<Date>>, it worked (just like you observed).

Looks like some bug with Left Page and Right Page.
