Brian Winkel is an Emeritus Professor (civilian) of Mathematics, United States Miltary Academy, West Point NY USA, and currently serves as the Director of SIMIODE-Systemic Initiative for Modeling Investigations and Opportunities with Differential Equations, an organization of teachers and students interested in teaching and learning differential equations by using modeling and technology throughout the process. He had a distinguished career in teaching at liberal arts school (Albion College, Brown University), engineering schools (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Michigan Technological University) , and military academies (United States Miltary Academy, United States Air Force Academy). He founded three academic journals, two of which continue, Cryptologia and PRIMUS - Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduate Studies, and are published by Taylor & Francis Publishers.
He moved from homological algebra and Noetherian ring theory PhD dissertation to applications of differential equations with a passion for cryptology, both personally and professionally.
