In Version 10 on my HP Pavilion HPE Series it takes a little over a minute. Is this common experience? Is there some way to decrease this time? Does it have any thing to do with virus checking? I guess that one possible solution is to just leave the Mathematica FrontEnd open all the time, say by keeping the Documentation Center open but minimized. I have a 4k monitor (resolution 3840x2160) at work and another at home running at recommended 150% scale. The Mathematica interface looks really blurry and it is painful to read (see attached image, the window behind Mathematica is the browser window where this message was being composed. Browser text is very sharp, as is the rest of Windows. Mathematica text is blurry). My laptop (Surface book) runs at a resolution of 3000x2000 and 200% scale and Mathematica there looks even blurrier. High dpi monitors have been out for many years and Mathematica has always been blurry for me on them. Is there a way of making it give good text? I currently pay for ChatGPT Plus, and it should not be limited. I can only assume I made an error when inputting my API secret. However, I need help finding where to update the API secret I shared after installing the plugin. I cannot find anything in the options. Where can I update my API secret inside my notebook? I am not able to install any Wolfram products. I download the download manager .exe OK. But when I run it (by double clicking on it), it hangs. I see it on the task manger. Eventually it times out. According to instructions, it is supposed to open "immediately". Yet., this has never happened to me. This window never opens. So I have no idea why it says "immediately" ![enter image description here][1] I made sure also the desktop is clear, just in case it is hiding behind some window. I had this problem before when I tried to install the Wolfram player. Same thing happens. I download the DM.exe OK. But it never runs. [Here is a link][2] Today, I wanted to install 11.3 on windows 7. I downloaded `Mathematica_11.3.0_WIN_DM.exe` OK. But again, it does not start. ![enter image description here][3] I also tried running it as administrator. No help. it still hangs. I do not use Windows firewall. I use ESET security/anti-virus software. Been using it for many years with no problems from any software. But I also disabled this software now to see if it has any effect, then tried running the Mathematica download manager. It still hanged. I also booted the PC in safe mode (but with network enabled). Then Tried running DM manager. Again, it hangs. Even in safe mode. If I leave it running, after about 40 minutes of so, it times out. ![enter image description here][4] If I try to run it a second time while waiting for the first one, which is still running, I get error that only one instance is allowed to run ![enter image description here][5] This whole process of installing Mathematica is broke. Before, I would just download the .exe itself. I do not care if it was 10 GB. Now, I can't install any Wolfram product using this download manager thing. Is it possible to download the actual installer.exe or the product file itself without having to download this small download manager (as used to be the case before?) It does not matter if it too large. I see that on Linux, there is no download manager. But only for windows and Mac. It will be better to also give the choice to customer to either use the download manager or to download the file directly itself, and let **customers decide what to do**. I have no idea why it does not start. I can't see any errors. I see it sitting there in the task manager and nothing happens. My PC is home edition, running windows 7, 64 bit. Latest version. The issue is that M13 (or 12.3) for that fact ***does not operate*** under Windows 7, apparently only Win 10. So I then have to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10, or lose the ability to upgrade Mathematica, to which I am entitled under my service plan. Does anyone know of a workaround for this problem. Wolfram have been just saying that I need to upgrade to Windows 10, and that is a Wolfram policy. I have now gone to Maple - not OS dependent. So they should at least refund the cost of the service plan, if they aren't able to provide a solution. That is, I would love to have a notebook that I could distribute to my colleagues that contained code like [mcode]SetOptions[Something, LookForKernelsAt->IPAddress(es)OfTheComputer(s)RunningLightweightGrid][/mcode]that would configure their computers correctly and through Mathematica restarts (ie. so that they only have to evaluate the code one time). Is this possible? Do such commands exist? I have been trying to understand what is provided in the LightweightGridClient and Parallel`Developer contexts but nothing seems to fit the bill. Alternatively, are there commands that would correctly and permanently setup access to additional cores via SSH, as in Parallel->Remote Kernels ? **Refinement of question below** Thank you both for your responses, I think they have helped me learn enough to almost solve, but then need to refine my question. Suppose I go to the Mma preferences and click "Reset to Defaults" in the Parallel tab. Then, when I evaluate[mcode]$ConfiguredKernels[/mcode]I get, for example[mcode]{<<2 local kernels>>}[/mcode]and if I LaunchKernels[] two kernels launch, as expected, since that is the default on my machine alone. If I CloseKernels[] I can then execute[mcode] Needs["LightweightGridClient`"] AppendTo[$ConfiguredKernels, LightweightGrid[{ "Agent" -> "http://THE.IP.ADD.RESS:3737/WolframLightweightGrid/Manager", "KernelCount" -> SomeNumber, "LocalLinkMode" -> "Connect", "Service" -> "", "Timeout" -> 30}] ][/mcode]If I go to the Parallel preference pane, it shows "Total number of configured kernels: 2+SomeNumber", which is promising. Something curious is that if I go to the Lightweight Grid sub-pane, it doesn't show the machine I just added to $ConfiguredKernels at all (even though it does show that 2+SomeNumber are set up). It simply shows what it shows after clicking Reset to Defaults: "Ready to connect to computers running the Lightweight grid Manager". I think this might just be that the interface is not refreshing. If I run LaunchKernels[] now, 2+SomeNumber kernels launch, as expected. If I close and re-open the preferences and go to the Lightweight Grid subpane, now it shows a computer at THE.IP.ADD.RESS as expected, with the "Enable" box checked, but unexpectedly the Kernels box is 0, not SomeNumber as expected. Finally, if I CloseKernels[], $ConfiguredKernels evaluates to {<<2 local kernels>>} again, instead of a list of the two local kernels + the lightweight grid kernels. If I return to the Lightweight Grid preference pane, all knowledge of kernels at THE.IP.ADD.RESS is gone. If I go through the same rigamaroll but now manually increase the kernel count next to THE.IP.ADD.RESS to any number by clicking the + sign in the preference pane, I can CloseKernels[], Quit[], quit Mma, etc., and knowledge of that lightweight grid survives. My questions are: (1) Am I having a typical experience? If it matters, my $Version is "9.0 for Mac OS X x86 (64-bit) (November 20, 2012)" (9.0.0.0, I think). (2) What can I do to get the Lightweight Grid stuff to stick around through CloseKernels[]s, Quit[]s, and full quits of Mma that isn't clicking around with my mouse in the preference pane? The answer came from salespeople and was vaguely NO. In November 2020 came x64 emulator for these Windows in Insiders Preview. I have Surface Pro X with SQ1 processor but do not have (yet) Insiders´ version of Windows. There are mixed opinions on x64 emulator, some software runs in it, some crashes, some does not even start. I have recently been shown Matlab 2021a running in x64 emulator, same for SPSS 64-bit software. The architecture of Mathematica is quite different from all these software by having a kernel which is architecture and OS optimized. 1. Anybody of you tried with a success running Mathematica in Surface Pro X (or any other ARM64 Windows 10 computer) in x64 emulator? 2. If, so is it stable, or crashes or have some limitations? I may understand that GPU running will not work, but I can live without it. 3. Any known plans of Wolfram to port Mathematica to ARM64 Windows 10 (or M1 Mac, where I heard that Mathematica runs well under their emulator, except of shell scripts)? If there is positive answer for question 1 and 2, I will install Windows Insiders´ Preview. I can run the CDF ok from Chrome version 40 and also IE, but not with FF 36. I have uninstalled all the CDF players I have, did fresh install of CDF player 10 software. I was working on a project this evening, when I stopped being able to enter new lines by pressing Enter. Instead, Enter caused my current cell to evaluate. Shift+Enter caused a beep, which was explained by the message "You asked to evaluate the next input cell after the current selection, but there were no more input cells in the notebook." I tried to close and reopen Mathematica. which caused cells to default to not evaluatable. I then did a clean start of Mathematica by deleting the Base Directory and User Base Directory, but the problems persisted. Furthermore, after the initial problem, the font changed from the usual blocky monospace Mathematica font to a Times New Roman-style variable space font (shown below). Output formatting also got strange (as shown below). Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!
