John Snow's Cholera Map in Mathematica v10 format

Posted 3 years ago

Dear Sir

I am a TV director in charge of making under the request of the ministry of education and the Japan Open University a series of 16 video courses of 45 minutes titled “Mathematics, Datascience, and AI Literacy”. These videos will be proposed to be used in all the universities of Japan from April 2021 till march 2025, to the attention of all the student of 1st year.

This is a request of permission to use one graphic into the course video and get the copyright clearance. Description of the graphic we would like to use: John Snow's Cholera Map in Mathematica v10 format https://community.wolfram.com/groups/-/m/t/339663 We wish to use the map you developed about Mr.Snow’s data using discovery. This map will be used to teach how data can be used. Also, we would like to use the same map in another sequence, where we show it all in black and white, and teach the importance of the color selection when you make data.

Details about the video course distribution: - It will be shown in the universities of Japan from 1st April 2021 till 31st March 2025 - It will be broadcasted through the TV Channel owned by the Japan Open University during 4 years, from 1st April 2021 till 31st March 2025 with a lot of re-broadcastings during this period. - They will be put online on the intranet web system dedicated to the Open University of Japan’s students for 4 years from 1st April 2021 till 31st March 2025. - The video courses might be put on the Internet, through Youtube and the free access website of the Open University of Japan (https://www.ouj.ac.jp/eng/ )

Could you please, tell us what are your conditions for letting us use the graphic in our course video? What are the copyright credit line you wish us to put on? As it is an educational purpose, we will appreciate to use the graphic for free, but if it has a cost, could you tell us the amount?

We wish to finish to prepare all the graphics of these courses before the 28th of December 2020. So, a fast reply would help a lot. Thank you for taking into consideration this urgent demand.

Dear Ako Sato,

We contacted the author, Diego Zviovich, and he gives his permission for the content to be used in the way you describe. I will suggest that you give attributions both to Diego Zviovich and to Robin Wilson (attributed by Zviovich in his post). Since the work appears on Wolfram Community, we also request that you note the content was posted on the Wolfram Community site and created with Mathematica (or the Wolfram Language), if this is not apparent in the course itself.
