I tried every possible permutation trying to find that local maximum. No deal.
But even in Mathematica itself, which can access Alpha, your command could not zero in on the local maximum. However, when I asked for local maximum y = 1 + x + |x^2-1| near 0, it responded with {2.25, {x -> 0.5}}.
In the online Alpha this didn't work either.
It was the frustration of trying to get Alpha to do these seemingly simple things and failing that prompted me to go for the real Mathematica.
