Failed to Create Pixmap in Ubuntu

Hi all,
I am trying 9.0.1 on Ubuntu and get this message at startup ?

Is there a workaround?

First, make sure the Mathematica startup files are not corrupted by resetting and rebuilding them
by adding the -clean to the Mathematica start line.

mathematica -clean &

Try starting Mathematica with these lines.

mathematica -graphicssystem native

mathematica -mesa
