Is there a built-in function to import Esri ASCII raster format?

Does anyone know whether Mathematica has a built-in function to import Esri ASCII raster format data as described at Esri ASCII raster format.

I haven’t been able to find any mention in the documentation, but thought I’d check here before penning my own function.

Any help would be much appreciated.
