Manipulate: An improper nine patch image input option was encountered.

I have written a Manipulate function that takes a list of text values as options for the user to select, and presents them in a PopupMenu control.

When I first press Shift + Enter, I get the very cryptic error message…

An improper nine patch image input option was encountered.

Thereafter, it works fine.

I cannot seem to find any information on this error message. Does anyone know what it means?

My notebook is attached.

The issue seems to be fixable by removing the Appearance option in your Manipulate. My understanding, I think, is that the option Appearance doesn’t work there and it’s producing problems. The error message itself is something low level which isn’t very useful or easy to interpret.
