OpenRead crashes kernel if the remote resource is unavailable

Wolfram Language 15.0.0 for Mac OS X ARM (64-bit)

I found out by accident, if the remote resource is blocked or unavailable by Import or Get any call to OpenRead on it will crash the evaluation kernel

OpenRead["https://iddqd.qaxyz"]

or if you try it with wolframscript

wolframscript -c 'OpenRead["https://iddqd.qaxyz"]'
The product exited for an unknown reason.

I tried it on

In[]:= $Version
Out[]= "15.0.0 for Mac OS X ARM (64-bit) (May 19, 2026)"

and got this:

Do you see something different? I did not get crash.

It could be because of a semi-blocked internet connection I am having now. That silently sets

$AllowInternet = False

Could you, please, try to set this temporary and run OpenRead again on your machine? I asked one college on Windows 11 WL15.0 and it crashed immediately

Yes, indeed, with $AllowInternet = False it does crash kernel. I’ll notify our team.
