Mouse move/rotate/flip very slow on DensityPlot3D[] example

Posted 8 years ago

The code is a one liner:

DensityPlot3D[Sin[1.5 x] Cos[3 y + 2 z] + x + Cos[2 z], {x, -2, 2}, {y, -2, 2}, {z, -2, 2}
  , PlotTheme -> "Marketing", ImageSize -> 600
  ]

The image matches the sample, but…

The first symptom is using the mouse to move/rotate/flip is very slow. After a couple of tries, everything in the front-end is slow, including other Notebooks.

I also tried this right after re-initializing Mma…same result

I have seen cases where a graphic looked small but was very large internally. This one saves to disk as only 1.5MB. It takes 4.6 secs to render. Hovering over the graphic does make the pointer change to the rotate pointer, but nothing happens. The second time, it changes to “spinning beach ball”.

This code comes directly from a V11 What’s New page, here:

http://www.wolfram.com/language/11/volume-visualization/visualize-function-density.html?product=mathematica

I am running V11.0 on Mac ElCap.

Any help is appreciated.

I get the same response with 11.0.1.0 running on Win 7 x64. It is VERY slow.
