ABOUT ME:

Renato N. Sampaio received his B.Sc. (2008), M.Sc (2010), and Ph.D. in Physics (2014) from the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (Brazil) with Prof. N. M. Barbosa Neto studying the photophysics of porphyrin macrocycles, and the charge transfer events and interfacial electric fields in dye-sensitized solar cells. He undertook postdoctoral research within the Alliance for Molecular PhotoElectrode Design for Solar Fuels directed by Prof. G. J. Meyer at UNC-Chapel Hill where he expanded his studies on solar energy conversion and electron transfer at semiconductor-molecule interfaces. Between 2018 and 2021 he was a research associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the Artificial Photosynthesis group directed by Dr. E. Fujita working on mechanistic investigations of molecular CO₂ reduction catalysts. In July 2021, Renato moved to the Chemistry Department at UNC-Chapel Hill where he is now a Research Assistant Professor and Scientist in the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE).
