What is the "correct" Life Expectancy in US?

Posted 7 years ago

When I access LifeExpectancy data for UnitedStates using CountryData, it gives different results than using EntityValue. The rest of the countries in the CountryData seem to be fine. Does this have something to do with the "recent" changes in US life expectancy as shown in the CDC study? https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db267.htm

CountryData["UnitedStates", "LifeExpectancy"]

Returns 78.941 yr - whereas

EntityValue[Entity["Country", "UnitedStates"], "LifeExpectancy"]

Returns 78.8 yr

Aren't those two calls equivalent? If not, what should be the preferred way to access such data? I am curious to know how the data get updated and propagated thru the systems as well as the reasons for the difference. Thanks
