Positioning VertexLabels

I'm working with a graph that has relatively long vertex labels, and the default positioning has them overwriting each other. I'd like to set the position and orientation of specific vertex labels. I haven't found a way to do that, and I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
George

Thanks for the pointer. I discovered that the Examples section of the documentation for VertexLabels has extensive examples of exactly what I was looking for.

The reference page for VertexLabels, under Details, has the syntax for specifying label positions.
Rotate should help with orientation, but I don't know without experimenting where it would go. Probably in VertexLabelStyle.
