Import a 3D object from Tinkercad to Mathematica?

Posted 5 years ago

Tinkercad can output a .OBJ or a .STL file that represents a 3D object. How can such a file be imported into Mathematica to become some kind of graphics object, (say a wireframe but not necessarily!) . The purpose is to be able to graphically visualize in Mathematica the outer contour of the object as seen from a selected exterior viewpoint. The best would be a Manipulate that allows the viewpoint to be shifted around and see the outer contour in some distinguishable color. For example, from outside of a sphere, the visible outer contour is a circle. From outside of a torus, one may see different countours, including an oblong contour, or two concentric circles, etc.
