Why is Mathematica slow after clicking the icon?

Hi, 

Is it normal, that Mathematica needs some seconds (ca. 5 to 7 ) after clicking the icon on my mac? I mean, it takes a while until the "Choose Notebook"-windows comes.

Ok. I thought, my computer is too slow for mathematica...

It can depend a lot on the machine and its resources as well as what might be being loaded with your copy of Mathematica.

5 Seconds sounds reasonable depending on my machine.
