Nonlinear and chaotic differential equations presenting poor results

Posted 2 years ago

Hi Guys

Please refer to the attached notebook. I have derived a set of three differential equations which are nonlinear and present chaos. When considering initial conditions the system is also stiff.

I have modelled the system on Matlab and received poor accuracy when comparing the different ODE solvers. Mathematica seems to be far more advance in terms of its capabilities of differential equations. I have modelled the system in the presented notebook and plotted a set of results using different solvers and one simulation where Mathematica develops the solution on its own. The results present inconsistencies.

What can be done to improve the accuracy so that all the solvers will present similar results? Note that for the case where k is set to 266*1000/2, consistent results are from all three methods presented in the notebook.
