Modeling time series in System Modeler

Posted 1 year ago

We frequently get queries from new users on how to model a time series in System Modeler.

There are several ways that one could do it but you can categorize them basically into 2 categories:

  1. Modeling a time series using data directly in System Modeler, or
  2. Modeling a time series in System Modeler using data from the Wolfram Language

If you are interested in category 1, then the following reference documentation is useful: https://reference.wolfram.com/system-modeler/GettingStarted/ExternalData.html

It has documentation along with simple examples. The topics range from adding data from recorded measurements to connecting to industrial sensors to connecting to an Arduino, among other things.

If you are interested in category 2, then the following Wolfram Language function is useful: https://reference.wolfram.com/language/ref/CreateDataSystemModel.html

You can use this function to create a System Modeler component from a time series (or an interpolating function) like wind speed data, price data, or temperature data.
