Solution of a System of Nonlinear Equations using the Fixed Point Method

You might also use FixedPoint directly to do Newton iterations for such examples. An advantage is it can be given both a maximum iteration count and a stopping criterion that ensures either that it converged adequately or else is in trouble (Newton's Method of course can fail if not started in a zone of convergence).
