Author's self correction: despite his very significant contributions to the founding of the United States, Benjamin Franklin did not serve as a president of the new country. The timeline is:

  • March 4, 1789 - effective date of the US constitution
  • April 30, 1789 - George Washington becomes the first president of the US
  • April 17, 1790 - Benjamin Franklin dies

Hi Dave, thank you for sharing! That's a great expansion of my post and it is so curious to find that so many subdivisions duplicate the name of the state they are in.
