What tutorials, guides or books might I study to understand what C language compilers are available for mac os and how those might be installed for use in Notebooks?

I have used some of the basic Compile[.] and FunctionCompile[.] features but the last time I wrote C was in the daze of BSD and UniSoft. I retired before GitHub was a thing, so anything I knew is obsolete.
I looked at Apple Developer but everything there presumed you wanted to write ios apps. Does the C or C++ compile in Xcode allow access from WL?

Any help or guidance is welcome...
