I do not think you can close your notebook without saving in Mathematica Online. I also tried but I just figured out that there is a deactivated cloud shaped button with a tick sign included in the upper task bar of my notebook which says that ALL CHANGES SAVED when you hover your mouse pointer on the button. All you can do is delete the cell or just edit it. You do not have to save the notebook separately, it is auto saved.
