Reduce a complex number expression into its form a+bi?

Posted 9 years ago

First of all, wolfram will not recognize i as imaginary in the entry

(2-sqrt(3)*i)-i[(2-i)(3-3*i)-5]

So I did:

complex (2-sqrt(3)*i)-i[(2-i)(3-3*i)-5]

and it recognized, but it gives me a very ugly expression

I know this is a dumb question but I couldn't find a way to get the a+bi form of this and other expressions involving complex numbers.

It is assumed you are using Wolfram|Alpha here and not Mathematica. Entering

(2-Sqrt(3)I)-I[(2-I)(3-3I)-5]

gives a perfectly good answer if you look down the page of results at bit. Certainly, not ugly.
