Parsing the "inches of water" column pressure unit in W|A?

Posted 8 years ago

WA seems to have issues parsing the inches of water column pressure unit (abbreviated 'in WC' in results, as can be seen from a simple conversion query ). Trying to use this unit in calculations is a headache. For example take a simple question: 5 in WC * 1 ft^2. This is a simple query, pressure X area which should return an answer in units of force. But if you ask this question, the software cannot parse the question. Using parenthesis does not help. Is there a better way to use this unit? It seems like the space in the name of the unit is what is causing the issue, but I don't know of any other abbreviation to use.

Try it like this. The parentheses are not necessary, but I like them. When we add "to pounds" or "to Newtons" to our conversion query, WA seems to get the picture.
