After completing an Engineering degree, Alec began a career in teaching and became interested in the use of IT to motivate student learning. After working as a Maths subject lead for a number of years, Alec left teaching to work for the UK’s Specialist Schools and Academies Trust as the national coordinator for Mathematics and Computing specialist schools. During this time he worked with numerous schools and education bodies in England, with the remit of enriching the curriculum, raising attainment and engaging schools with the community. With this experience, Alec returned to the classroom to support a school that had fallen below national targets. During this time the issue of the wrong Maths curriculum became blatantly clear. After a successful turnaround in the school’s maths results, Alec joined Conrad Wolfram’s computerbasedmath.org campaign as the content development manager to help fix maths education worldwide.
