Akilan has lived around the world, including India, China, Vietnam, and the United States. He shares his passion for mathematics and robotics with the diverse people and cultures he encounters. As an Outreach Lead for a team in the FIRST Robotics Competition and the founder of a Game Development and Design Club at his school, he enjoys creating and engineering. During the summer, he teaches students about STEM topics by running a summer camp with his friends. In his freshman year of high school, Akilan played every minute of his soccer season, even captaining his team to victory in the final game. He has raised over $700 with his team to support breast cancer awareness by hosting a car wash. As an active member of his community, he has presented at various conferences about STEM advocacy for rural communities in Rwanda.
