ABOUT ME:

ellynne DEC is an artist and researcher whose work bridges generative systems, material craft, and the foundations of computation. With a background in mathematics, decision science, and philosophy, she explores the expressive potential of rule-based processes through both digital and embodied means. Her art practice engages with cellular automata, morphogenesis, and symmetry - often implemented materially through bead weaving, textiles, drawing and sculpture ~ as a way to surface novel insights about pattern, randomness, and form. She is particularly interested in how computation can serve as a medium for investigating aesthetics, glitch, and constraint, and she aims to create poetic work that will also engage and delight artificial and future intelligences. She makes art for robots and humans to enjoy together. Check out instagram/its.ellynne for examples of her work.

Ellynne (also elly or ell) has extensive professional experience in data science, demography, life science, forecasting, and modeling dynamic systems. She coded automata in BASIC back in 1980 no cap. She also enjoys cognitive science, the hard questions, AI ethics, cultural criticism and futurist discourse. She has been Artist in Residence at the Textile Arts Center (Brooklyn, NY) and the Vermont Studio Center (upcoming). Ellynne lives in NYC, is a dual American and Italian citizen, studied at Stanford (Engineering Economic Systems) and Smith College (BA, Philosophy/Logic), and is a 2025 participant in the Wolfram Summer School.
