János D. Pintér, PhD, DSc, is an applied mathematician, researcher, technical author and software developer. His primary broad research area is nonlinear optimization, including global and local continuous optimization as well as mixed integer nonlinear programming.
Dr. Pintér has authored and edited several books and wrote about 200 scholarly publications related to systems modeling and optimization. He received the 2000 INFORMS Computing Society Prize for his book Global Optimization in Action (published by Kluwer AP, now distributed by Springer Science).
Dr. Pintér has been serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Global Optimization (since its 1991 foundation), serving also on other editorial boards, and more recently as an editor of the book series SpringerBriefs in Optimization. He also has served as an officer of several professional societies, including e.g the position of Global Optimization Vice-Chair of the INFORMS Optimization Society, and Chair of the Managing Board of EUROPT (The Continuous Optimization Working Group of EURO).
