I retired in 1995 from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.faculty of Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa).
I now wish to explore(as a hobbyist and amateur) certain realms of advanced mathematics--e. g., 3-D plots complex variable functions over the r- theta plane--despite having almost no formal training in those areas. I have difficulty formulating mathematical queries that the Wolfram site interprets as I intended. Alas, I do not even know how to insert math symbols such as the Greek symbol for the angles "theta" or "Pi" in my queries or if that is even possible. I have had some success by resorting to the use of word substitutes in those cases.
Perhaps there is an easy to learn math software program that I might try.
