Dr. Paul D. Hillman has 27 years experience in the R&D optics and laser fields. He codeveloped with Dr. Denman the 50-watt guidestar laser system in operation at the Air Force Starfire Optical Range. He has also studied the other end of the beam by modeling sodium guidestar brightness from CW pumping. Dr. Hillmans laser research started with the PILOT program at AFRL entailing laser diodes, including: power scaling by photo refractive phase locking and beam combining, frequency doubling into the blue region of the visible spectrum, and two dimensional amplified coherent arrays. Dr. Hillman joined the PILOT program due to his experience in MO-CVD, material growth, and optical coatings. Early in his career, Dr. Hillman worked for Perkin Elmer in their optical coating and research departments studying the use of plasma etching to polish large optics. Dr. Hillman received his Ph.D from the Optical Sciences Center and MS in Chemical Engineering at the University of Arizona.
