ABOUT ME:

I am an Optical Scientist and Emeritus Professor of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona. My Laboratory was dedicated to polarization measurements, particularly Mueller matrix imaging polarimeters, for UV, visible, near and far IR. Liquid crystal cells, polarizing films, anisotropic materials, and precision optical components were areas of study. I also spent three years performing polarization optical engineering at Meta Platforms in Sunnyvale involved in VR and AR optics. I coauthored the textbook "Polarized Light and Optical Systems" by Chipman, Tiffany Lam, and Garam Young, published by CRC Press in 2018. All the work in this book was developed using Mathematica. In 2016 I cofounded Airy Optics, Inc. which provides a Mathematica-based optical design and polarization analysis software and engineering services. I have an appointment as a Visiting Professor at Japan's leading Optical Engineering Center, CORE, the Center for Optics Research and Education at Utsunomiya University, where my great friend Prof. Yukitoshi Otani teaches.
