Well, most of my friends call me Gent, so feel free to reach out and say Hi Gent.
In the past year (2019), I have returned to school in order to expand my skillset, as I would like a job where I can work from anywhere.
I have a PhD in Biomedical Science from UCSF, with training specifically in Virology/Immunology(Vaccinology). I have worked both in the lab and in management, but have been drawn for some time now to bioinformatics and data science. I have for years relied on others to provide the needed computer support for my work, and while I likely should have sought those skills myself years ago, I say better late than never. I am currently in a post-grad bioinformatics certificate program at Stanford and I decided to join the post-bacc CS program here at OSU as well, because most of the Data Scientists I talk to state how important it is to have full-stack/developer skills and the foundation knowledge.
While I don’t have any delusions of becoming an amazing programmer, I do believe that this training will compliment the other skills I do have.
While I prefer to be in class, I have heard great things about OSU and the support provided in the online programs and so I am excited to start this new opportunity. I live in CA currently, but we are moving to be closer to family up in the Seattle area (Mill Creek) soon.
