W. Wayt Gibbs has worked as a science writer since 1989. As a program director for the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing, he produces the scientific program for the ScienceWriters conference. President of the Northwest Science Writers Association, he is a contributing editor and podcast contributor for Scientific American, where he was a news writer from 1993 to 1998 and senior writer from 1998 to 2006. Gibbs is contributing editor for Anthropocene and IEEE Spectrum magazines, and he has written for Science, Nature, The Economist, Discover, NBC News, NOVA and numerous other publications. His articles have been included in the Best American Science Writing anthology and have won the AAAS Science Journalism Award, the Wistar Science Journalism Award, and others. Since 2006, Gibbs has worked at Intellectual Ventures with founder/CEO Nathan Myhrvold on his research, books, and on documentaries for Netflix, BBC, History Channel, Discovery Channel, and PBS.
