Thomas Mayerhöfer received his diploma in chemistry from the University of Regensburg in 1996 and his PhD in physical chemistry from the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena in 1999. He completed his habilitation in 2006, focusing on the optics and infrared spectroscopy of polydomain materials. Since 2007, Mayerhöfer has worked at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology, where he has focused on bringing together and advancing the field of infrared spectroscopy based on wave optics and dispersion theory. Mayerhöfer has published around 100 peer-reviewed papers, with approximately half as first author. These papers are primarily focused on spectroscopic theory. Some of his recent contributions include the development of a residual sum of squares that allows for the detection and correction of systematic errors, the successful application of the Kramers-Kronig relations for limited spectral ranges, and the derivation of Beer's law from electromagnetic theory. At the moment he is putting together the book "Wave Optics in Infrared Spectroscopy - Theory, Simulation and Modelling", which is expected to be published by Elsevier in autumn 2024.
