[?]  Trace path of a point from a body using MultiBody library in SM?

In many CAE software (SolidWorks, RecurDyn...) it is possible to trace the curve that a certain point follows during a simulation. This is useful to show the motion of the point and compare the results with the expected ones or even with the output of another software.

Is there a way to do this in SystemModeler? I am working with mutibody mechanical systems using the MultiBody library.

For example, in the following simulation:

The goal is to show the arc followed by the sphere during the simulation. The curve is to be drawn as the motion occurs and export the data to a plain text file (if possible).

Right click in the animation window and select trace path and the part that you want to trace. Note, you are tracing the visualizer so if you want to trace the other end of something (like a cylinder or box) you might need to have a dummy visualizer attached in that end if there isn't anything already attached there.

Unfortunately you have to turn it on every time you open a new animation window. You are not the first one that wants to make it persistent in the model so we will likely add something like that in some future release (it wont make it into the upcoming release though).

Thank you for your answer, is there a way to activate this trace option from the model definition itself (though annotations maybe)?

It is kind of strange where the visualizers are in some parts, so using a dummy visualizer is a good idea.
