MMA 9.0: What is the intended purpose of the Legended command?

Posted 11 years ago
Hi guys--

So my second fumbling attempt at getting comfortable with MMA is snagging right where my first left off:  generating plots for export with legends.  I'm reading through all the examples, and I will get there, but I'm confused about the occasional use of "Legended", with and without use of "PlotLegends".  The Legended reference page:

http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/Legended.html

has an example that uses Legended without calling PlotLegends at all, while almost all other examples I see use PlotLegends exclusively.  I think I'm just unclear about the purpose of Legended, when all of the legend functionality seems to (usually) come from the PlotLegends command.  What am I missing here?

Thanks all, and have a great day.

I'm not sure if I fully understand your question, but you think of Lengended and the PlotLegend option as two different ways of creating a Legend for you plots. If you are comfortable with Legended yet, PlotLegend probably will be sufficient  for most purposes.

The Legended syntax is a bit more like the Tooltip syntax, which some people might prefer.
