Open a hidden folder from Mathematica frontend?

Posted 5 years ago

Hello. How to open a hidden folder, for example ~/.WolframEngine, from the Mathematica 11.0.1 frontend?

Yes, Raspberry pi uses Linux. Unfortunately, these key combinations did not work for me. As a workaround, I created a symbolic link :

pi@raspberrypi:~$ ls -s .WolframEngine WolframEngine

so that WolframEngine now appears in the open file menu and leads to .WolframEngine. Not very nice but the trick may be acceptable for linux users.

It looks like you are on Linux, so this may not work, but on MacOS, Command-Shift-Period will display hidden files in the Finder and the same shortcut keys work within Wolfram Desktop.

On versions of Linux with Nautilus file manager, it is Control+H, but not sure if it works in Wolfram.

Hope that helps.

An invisible file can be opened by typing directly its name, for example ~/.Mathematica/Kernel/init.m. After opening .Mathematica, the menu can be used to go deeper and the Mathematica file explorer displays .Mathematica (only for current session). I am now on v12.2.
