Asking Alexa

Posted 5 years ago

Announced today, Amazon's Alexa will be using Wolfram|Alpha to answer users questions.

Impress your friends, settle family disputes over the holidays, show off your ability to ask interesting questions...

Examples include:

  • Alexa, what is the billionth prime number?
  • Alexa, how high do swans fly?
  • Alexa, what is x to the power of three plus x plus five where x is equal to seven?
  • Alexa, how fast is the wind blowing right now?
  • Alexa, how many sheets of paper will fit in a binder?
  • Alexa, how long until the moon rises?

Enjoy!

is this a skill that needs to be enabled?

Nope! Just ask Alexa a computation-related query and it will likely route to Wolfram|Alpha for an answer (not all queries will be routed immediately, as there's a learning curve on Alexa's side for understanding what source should be used for each query). Enjoy!
