Hello, I am new to
Mathematica, and I have run into something unexpected with the following integral:
![](http://www5a.wolframalpha.com/Calculate/MSP/MSP42321d4adf39h458c96100004c24fgh66859aheg?MSPStoreType=image/gif&s=57&w=323.&h=39.)
Straightforward enough, but when I re-write the integral as
![](http://www3.wolframalpha.com/Calculate/MSP/MSP85451h3f3cidbb3bi17c000037e795c7g2ad0c39?MSPStoreType=image/gif&s=21&w=367.&h=42.)
I see this unexpected bit at the end of the step-by-step solution:

Why has the 2*log(e^x) term dissapeared instead of simplifying to 2*x? Is Mathamatica making assumptions about the restricted values of x, or am I just missing something?
