Disable invoking ExternalEvaluate with > shortcut

I want to disable the behavior associated with > in Mathematica 12+. There is now a shortcut to start a Python session:

Use > at the beginning of a line to start an external code cell evaluated with ExternalEvaluate

This "hijacks" the intended command and puts it in a Python cell annoyingly when I type a > to modify a line. How to turn this off?

Replacing my old 12.1.1 (downloaded June 16, before the fix of June 23) has solved the problem. Many thanks to you both!

Yes, Rohit. I got my version numbers mixed up. upgrade to the new (just released) 12.1.1 and it fixes that problem.

Thanks, Neil. Unfortunately, I am using 12.1.1.0 (under macOS Catalina, 10.15.5). Actually, I did not notice the problem in 12.1, although I might have just been lucky.

Hi John,

Take a look at this post. The issue was fixed in an updated 12.1.1.

John,

If I understand your issue, this is a bug with version 12.1. Upgrade to version 12.1.1 which was just released to fix the issue of cells suddenly changing when certain characters are typed.

Regards

Neil
