Mathematica 9.0.1 hangs when running on Linux over the X2Go client

Posted 11 years ago
Mathematica starts up and then hangs at the initial start a new workbook screen when using X2Go to a EL6.4 linux computer. Mathematica 8.0 works fine. Any ideas? I'd like newer versions of Mathematica to work ...

Yes, Yes and Yes :(

Have you tried -clean or -defaultvisual ?

Is this also with Mathematica 9?

Mathematica's front-end is not guaranteed to work through any particular remote-access program.

I added you two to the existing suggestion for supporting X2Go.

I'm experiencing this issue now only Mathematica -mesa is not working for me. Does Mathematica -mesa work for anyone else in X2Go or has it been broken in newer releases?

Thanks, the  mathematica   -mesa  & works for me!

Two quick suggestions:

a) start Mathematica in a terminal window with the -clean option,
    mathematica  -clean  &
This resets initialization files in case one was damaged or has incorrect/out-of-date data.

b) In case of a video driver incompatibility, try
     mathematica   -mesa  &
to use software rendering methods instead of hardware (video card) acceleration.
The option  -defaultvisual  sometimes helps, too.

Does the Mathematica 9 Kernel ("math" script) work? This is a plain-text interface.
