Manipulate creates only static images, not interactive controls

Hi,

does anyone experience this too?
The manipulate function in Wolfram Alpha is supposed to create interactive controls, but it produces only a static image that cannot be manipulated.

At least on any Apple-based system, I tried the iOS app and browser version, the macOS app and browser version (in both Safari and Firefox).

Since when did this stop working?

I was using the example in the "manipulate" help, which is:

Manipulate[Plot[Sin[x (1 + a x)], {x, 0, 6}], {a, 0, 2}]

This does give me a static image in which no sliders can be manipulated - but they should, or not?

It works fine for me.

13.3.1 for Mac OS X x86 (64-bit)

Also working fine for me on MacOS x86 and 13.3.0. If it was just the app I would say make sure you have "Dynamic Updating Enabled" in the Evaluation menu. But for it not to work for you on any platform, including the web version, is extremely odd!

I am using Wolfram Alpha Basic, could that be the reason? Would that be a Pro feature? I also couldn't find an Evaluation menu.

If you want to try, just log out and type in 

Manipulate[Plot[Sin[x (1 + a x)], {x, 0, 6}], {a, 0, 2}]

Yes, that's it. Basic Wolfram Alpha is a knowledge engine: it does not give you direct access to the Wolfram Language.

I think you can use the free (demo? trial?) version of Mathematica Online to do what you want to do.
