Why domain of f(x) = x^(1/3) is all non-negative number in Wolfram Alpha?

i use wolfram alpha to find domain of f(x) = x^(1/3). The result is x>= 0.

I don't know why can't be negative number.

i try to use some negative number such as x = -27, the result is -3.

Have any one can explained me to more clearly?
